Road trip.

Yay...we are in Brisbane!

It was far and we didn't have much time to do a lot of sightseeing, but the trip wasn't to bad. Because of Spring the landscape was sometimes astonishing. Bright yellow and deep purple flowers everywere. Also we enjoyed the beautiful sunset.

And then we arrived in Queensland and I can't remember the last time I saw so much rain. There was actually a weather warning and we could have easily arrived in Brisbane by boat..lol. It poored down the last two days, but now the sun is shining and I'm finally going to enjoy the city!

Day and night I worked to get it finished, but from now on we will be camping in style!

De car from the back with everything stored.

The 'kitchen' with room for two gas stoves can be pulled from underneath the bed, and so can the water can and cooking gear.

The cutlery tucked away nicely

Even the gas bottles have their own place.

next to the bed are two compartments. Front one is for bottles, the other one for our toiletries.

This is what it looks like from the other side. Their is still room for 3 people to sit in the back (the couch can turn). Underneath the bed is more storage room behind the little curtains. And on the right is a drawer with two compartments. Under the drawer you can see another storage space for the curtains (that's the roll in it).

The bed is extendable and the two legs (in the previous picture they are still attached to the storage room) support it.

This prevents it from moving.

And this is how the two mattresses hold together.

Curtains behind the drivers seats can be 'clicked' in between the two compartments.

The curtains for all the other windows can be attached with velcro.

The shelf with the three boxes (for clothes and towels) can be removed while we're driving.

So... how about man stuff?! I did pretty well, didn't I?!

I guess us women have a bit more eye for detail and practical use as well.

Tomorrow we are of to Brisbane and from next week on I'm going to enjoy the sun and the holiday feeling. Looking forward to read up on your blogs again!

It's a man thing...

....BUT WHY?!?!?!

This is what I have been working on the last two weeks. Yes, that's right... I, as in me; female, loves shopping, shoes and my favourite movies are Dirty Dancing and Bridget Jones!

But as soon as I tell people that I'm currently converting our new car into a camper-van I get strange looks.

I think working on a car is still man stuff, but I do really enjoy it too! (That doesn't make me a bloke though....lol)

Luckily my boyfriend trusts me on delivering a good job with the transformation. Of course he would love to do it himself but beside his work there isn't much spare time left.

It has to be ready for use by the end of next week, because we will be driving from Melbourne to Brisbane that weekend (21 hrs drive!). Boyfriend will be working there till the end of the year and I will be joining him for a couple of weeks (yay!) We absolutely looooove camping and will use the weekends to discover Queensland!

(Obviously I'll bring some craft stuff and a laptop to continue my Mon Cherry crafts during the week)

Allright, back to work now.... I have a deadline!

Allright,I'm not a big fan of copying other people's work. But also I don't have the money to buy all the art I like. So sometimes it comes in handy that I'm creative and good at painting.

I'm a big fan of ISAK. (http://www.isak.co.uk). Their happy designs really make me happy!

This painting is an idea copied from a print I saw on their website.

My sister just gave her living room a big make over ( have a look on her blog Uttemetut) and I wanted to make her something nice that suites the new room. So I decided to make my own version of one of the ISAK prints. It's their idea. I just used my own colours and images.

My sister just received the painting by mail and she loved it!

So do I!

I most definitely going to make one for my own living room as well!

Bumble Bee!

Two weeks ago I was asked to make a Bee mobile.

The Bee mobile was spotted in a little shop in Melbourne, but unfortunately wasn't for sale. Therefor I was asked to make something similar (if I could).

Always up for a challenge I went on an undercover mission to investigate the Bumble Bee.

Acting like I was an ordinary customer I discovered the bee in a corner of the little toy shop and I was able to take a snapshot whit out being catched by the lovely shop assistant.

I figured out it was do-able to make a mobile like this. I just wasn't to impressed with the bee used in the example. Being a bit picky I decided to draw my own Bee.

And as a little extra I added a little flower, which can be removed from the Bee's hands as well.

Do it yourself, Part 2

As promised here is how you can make yesterdays paintings yourself.

Start up the Computer!

1. Open Microsoft Word on your computer.

(don't worry... I'm really not into computers but even I can do this!)

2. Click 'insert' and choose 'picture'.

3. Choose a picture from your file.

4. The picture will pop up in your Word screen.

5. Click on the picture to select it.

6. Click on 'format' (on top of the screen) and choose 'picture'.

7. Click on 'recolor' and choose 'black and white'.

!!! Very important: Not every picture comes up well in black and white. Lets say just one or two out of ten pictures will work. You can work a bit with brightness and contrast but mostly you'll see soon enough if the picture works or not. A picture that's to dark or bright won't work. Pictures of young children are very hard as their face doesn't show enough contrast yet. But don't give up. Try different photo's. At some point a good one will appear!!!

(I think for Ties I tried 20 or more pictures before one worked!)

8. If you are happy with the picture expand it over the whole page. So enlarge it to fit on an A4 paper.

9. Print it.

This is where the drawing and painting begins!

10. Paint a canvas in the background colour of your choice (not to dark!)

11. Lay a transfer paper on the canvas and on top of that the black and white print.

12. Use a bit of painters tape to prevent moving of the papers.

13. Draw around all the black shapes (take a blue pen so you can see what you have done already).

You don't have to be to precise. Just be extra careful around the face. That's the most important part.

If there is a white part in an black part, draw around that as well (see his lips for example).

And don't forget the tiniest spots.

Make sure you push your pen hard enough for it to transfers on the canvas. Take a pen with a pointy tip!

14. If you finished drawing remove the papers from the canvas.

15. Choose a fine pencil with a pointy tip and start painting inbetween the lines you drew.

Sometimes it all looks a bit confusing (mostly the hairs and clothes) but you can look at your A4print for references on what to paint black or not.

Again it's not a big problem if you mis a bit (especially not the hair, etc). Just make sure you get the face right!

15. Paint the name. I did it by printing it on paper (choose a nice font and the right size) and transferring it on the canvas again with the transfer paper. Choose a bright colour to paint.

That's it...your ready!

And believe me, it's not as hard as it looks. I've seen people do it without any painting skills and it worked out fine! I guess you need a little bit of patience and that's it!

A little birdie told me...

A little birdie told me 'Lucinda Claire' was born,

and I was asked to make a coat rack for the little girl, and a matching toy box.

I normally use an IKEA toy box to re-decorate, but for some reason they took this item out of their collection. I found another (affordable) one but still wasn't happy with it. That left me just one more option...

...make the box myself! It worked out very well!

The funny thing is that at some point we visited a shop (both girls wearing the tees)

and the lady of the shop asked

'would you like a candy Janne?'

In response Janne looked very surprised and immediately asked

'how do you know my name?!'

I wanted to thank you all for your nice comments.

Just to let you know, I feel fine again. It took me a week to get over my jetlag. Although I still mis my family, I do enjoy being back in Melbourne a lot as well.

I'm working on all kinds of nice crafty projects (to be continued), I have heaps of ideas for our 'new' home and spring is in the air. So I can't complain at all!

On top of that I received an award again. This time from Marjan from hebikgemaakt

Spring has sprung....

But I took the opportunity to run outside with my camera that day.

Because I had to show you what I found in our garden after we came back from our vacation....

(hmmm.... actually we found grass and weed growing till our bellybuttons! But hidden in between we found these...)

A bouquet of flowers made from tissue paper and in it you'll find little hidden treasures like baby socks, lotion, a softie a cute rattle, etc.

It was made by a very creative friend of mine for another friend of us who you just got a little baby girl.

Back in Melbourne!

It's nice to be back home, but believe me... it was very hard to say goodbye again to our family.

In a way it makes it harder because you know it hurts them as well to see you go again.

I cried a river the last couple of days but I know everything will get back to normal soon. (I hope that includes the bags under my red eyes ;)

Meanwhile I just cleaned the kitchen did some washings, sorted out the mail and spend the last hour blogging...

...and it's not even 8 o clock in the morning yet!

Holiday 'kiekjes'!

In a few days time I have to say goodbye again to these cuties.

But while I was here we had a great time and offcourse I brought some souvenirs from Australia.

We made lampions and had a 'lampion parade' in the forest.

It's wonderful to be back with my family.

We had a lovely welcome and it feels like I haven't been away that long.

Especially my little nieces seem to enjoy having their Aunty around. Well, I must admit that I have spoiled them the last couple of days!

I didn't have time for a jetlag, but today is the first day that I don't look like a zombie anymore ; )

Soon I will catch up with my best friend and tomorrow me and my sister are going shopping!!!

I'm enjoying every minute and I won't spoil to much time by sitting behind the computer.

Just wanted to share some pictures with you.

This is the bag I made for my sister.

It was the most difficult sewing project I worked on so far. I came up with the whole pattern and decorations myself so I guess it's very unique. But then again... so is my sister!

Since this afternoon I'm having butterflies! The 21 hours flight ahead is the main reason probably. Yuck!

But I'm also very, very excited to see the family soon and it looks like I'm not the only one.

Apparently my nieces and nephew are waving to every passing airplane since the last couple of days. Houses have been redecorated and cleaned thoroughly. Fridges have been stocked as if the whole army is coming for supper.

It looks like our family is expecting the Royal Family....hehehe.

...just a few more days and I'm on my way to Summer and sun!

Whoohoo!

Soon I will be visiting my family and friends in the Netherlands and Germany. I'm really looking forward to it. It has been two years since I last saw them. Time to catch up. Cuddle my nieces and nephew endlessly, go shopping with my sis, enjoy the warm summer evenings with mum and dad in their lovely garden and Pien, the little dog sleeping on my lap.

I'm counting the days!

It's also one of the reasons I haven't been able to show you much of the craft projects I have been working on lately. Most of them are presents, and I don't wanna spoil the surprise.

So bare with me, soon I'll share the pictures!

How it all started...

A few days ago I received a 'stokje' from Michaja from ma vie a Salon (make sure you have a look on her blog. It's one of my favourites!) Thank you Michaja!

Anyway a 'stokje' in this case means that I have to answer a 'pass on question' about how it al started... (...my passion for craft, to be more specific).

Well...'Once upon a time I was born, and that's where it started!

In between playing with toy cars, climbing trees and

(I wasn't really a girlie girl)

I spend most of my childhood drawing and painting.

I actually divided cartoon images into squares and then drew them on scale on a bigger sheet, since I can remember. The seven dwarfs from Walt Disney were my favourites to draw.

I also loved to jigsaw (mostly brooches) and then paint them. I spend hours in the shed sawing away.

On day I got oil paint from my Dad. A new challenge. I started to paint a bit more realistic. And I actually was very impressed with myself. During several years I painted every now and then, but I guess I didn't have enough patience to stick with it.

Meanwhile I studied Social Work and I mainly specified in organising activities for groups of people (kids, elderly people, handicapped people,etc). The study involved a lot of creative subjects. I loved it all (well except knitting and sewing...yuck!)

After working as a social worker for a couple of years I decided it was time for a career change. I needed to do something new. That's how I ended up working at 'Pipoos' (a craft shop that's very well known in Holland and Belgium). Craft paradise! I discovered scrapbooking, decoupage, jewellery making, etc. You name it, i've tried it all!

This is where my own 'craft supplies stock' at home started to grow as well. My hobby was now my work and the money I earned went straight back into the shop...haha!

The idea to sell my handmade products grew.

This is one of the first items I made with the intention to sell:

After a few years I moved on to working at Dille & Kamille (I love that shop!!!) Here I was responsible for styling and decorating. If we had stayed in the Netherlands I would probably still work there!

In between I still crafted and sold something every now and then.

But there was still something I never ever tried. Sewing! Inspired by all those great fabrics I decided to buy a second hand sewing machine and give it a go. This little bag is one of the first projects I made (without a pattern)

Since then (2,5 years ago) I'm unstoppable, and so is my obsession with buying nice fabrics.

Time to make some money instead of just spending, I thought. The idea to start a web shop was born.

But then our lives turned upside down because me and my boyfriend got the opportunity to immigrate to Australia (our dream came true!)

Obviously it took a while to settle down in this new life.

I found a new job in a lovely little craft shop and got introduced to the wonderful world of craft in Melbourne (it's craft paradise). I also discovered blogging....

.. and here is where I stand today. On the very beginning of setting up an online shop and living my dream. I have so many ideas and plans, but I'm taking it one step at the time.

My workspace is now set up in the new house, so I'm ready to go!

My 'Happy Room' is how I call it ; )

I won't pass 'het stokje' on, simply because the whole forwarding thing is not really my cup of tea as I mentioned before. Hope I'll be forgiven?! I noticed there's already a lot of 'stokjes' going around anyway!

As I mentioned earlier my new blog is almost finished. And just to let you know the new blog will be part of me and my craft 'business' becoming a bit more 'professional' (wow!).

This blog will slowly end but the new blog will be very similar, just sooooo much prettier.

And I promise you...it already looks amazing!

Toy Box Surprise

A while ago I was asked to make two paintings for a baby boy's nursery. You might remember them:

Meanwhile little Ishan is born, and I was approached by his fathers colleagues to make a customised toy box as a surprise. I decided to decorate it in the same style as the paintings...

The new parents were very surprised with this unique gift from the colleagues.

And I really enjoyed making it!

Alienated!?!

After not blogging for a month it feels kind of strange to be back?! I feel a bit alienated from the blog world. But I'm sure I'll pick up my old blog addiction soon enough. And I look forward to catching up on all of your lovely blogs!

'I don't mind moving' I said a few weeks ago. And actually I didn't back then. Hmm... I should have realised we never owned that much stuff before! Pfff!

Anyway, the new house is great and everything is unpacked by now. That means I can start on the best part of moving to a new house; furnishing and decorating (although it probably takes a few more months for me to realise all my ideas)!

This is the first little project I finished. I painted a few vintage doilies and stiffened them. As you can see in the next picture, they make a lovely room decoration I think.

This is one of my favourites parts of the new house. The dining room. I love the skirting on the left wall and the little vintage gas heater.

Remember my Hyacinths? They are getting there.

Hopefully they'll show their nice, purple flowers before we are flying to Europe for our family visit/ holiday in a few weeks time.

You might think we eat heaps of lemons, but although we don't mind lemons, we are not able to finish them all! They are just for decoration...

...because the tree in our garden has hundreds of them!!!

Have a look at the garden... it's massive. In a couple of years one or two new houses will be built here. By that time we will be long gone. But for now we'll try to make the best of it (the garden has been neglected for a while). We're already enjoying the space and freedom this house offers. Compared to the previous apartments we lived in (both with tiny balconies) this is heaven!

Now we just have to wait for the summer to come.

I can picture myself sitting here in a few months time, surrounded by lovely flowers, sipping a glass of wine and feeling absolutely happy!

We recently moved and we don't have internet at the new address yet. Hopefully next week....fingers crossed. I mis reading all of your inspiring blogs.
Meanwhile I'm absolutely bursting with ideas for the new home. I just don't know where to start first. Why can I not think as a normal person...hehe! And I'm the kind of person ho prefers to finish everything in one day. But yeezz, days are short!

my crochet marathon...

I'm still working on my crochet blanket.

I do hope it will not end up as a ten years project.

But gosh, it sure takes a lot of time!

In a few weeks time we will visit our family in the Netherlands for a few weeks. I'm really looking forward to that! It has been two years since I saw them. It will be great to be able to give them all a big hug soon!

Unfortunately the flight takes about 22 hrs!!! Oh, and I hate flying...yuck.

And as sleeping is no option for me I decided to do a 22 hrs during crochet marathon in the plane!

Add another 22 hrs for the flight back and my blanket must be ready!

Fingers crossed I can smuggle my crochet hook into the plane. Luckily I do have a wooden one as well!

Wednesday we'll get the keys for the new home. I'm so excited! I have sleepless night remembering what it looked like again and oh believe me, I have redecorated the house about a hundreds of times in my mind! I drive myself (not to mention boyfriend) crazy!

I used this beautiful fabric to make these canvasses and the cushion for the new home.

Meanwhile we're still packing.

It took me 4 full days to sort all my craft stuff.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I needed 20 boxes to pack it all...

... and I did not even pack my fabrics and sewing machine yet!

When we arrived in Australia about 1,5 years ago we brought 35 boxes from the Netherlands. Needless to say that 30 of those boxes contained my stuff! We agreed on not bringing to much but there was no way I would leave my craft stuff (which was collected with great care over the years!) behind!

What can I say... crafting is my life!!!

In between packing boxes (we are already moving in 3 weeks time!) I just have to craft a bit as well!

(I think the last thing I'll pack up is the sewing machine; )

At the moment I'm making a patchwork blanket for the new home.

Just 100 more squares to go...

And we decided not to spoil our weekend with packing. Instead we went camping!

It was a beautiful, sunny but very cold weekend. Luckily we were well prepared as it got down to - 0.6 degrees. Covered in blankets, hats, scarfs and warm pairs of socks we sat around the camp fire in the beautiful woodlands around Creswick. It was lovely!

Another great thing about Australia are the Antique shops. No matter how tiny a village is, it always has a antique shop. We visited 5 this weekend! Oh, so much to see. Love it!

And yes, it's definitely Autumn on this site of the planet!

Allright....back to packing now!

Back in time!

The other day we were on the hunt for a Maccas (Australian for MacDonalds).

But as always there's millions of Maccas on this planet, but if you are searching for one you can't find it.

We just gave up hope as we noticed a sign that said

'real American Burgers here'.

Longing for a snack we decided to give it a try.

And what a discovery we made. It was as if going back in time. Amazing!

It felt like The King himself, Or Olivia and John would walk in any moment... lol.

(as you might have figured out, I've never been to America.

I presume these restaurants are more common over there?!))

Anyway the burger was great!

I love tulips!

Unfortunately they are sooooo expensive here in Australia.

But sometimes (if they are sold with a little bit of discount) I buy myself a few.

I thought I'd share one with you!

And this is what I discovered this morning. I'd already given up hope and forgot all about them!

But my hyacinths are back!!!

And the good news is that they will move from our tiny balcony to a massive garden,

because we found a new home! Yahoo!

That means I will be very busy the next couple of weeks.

You won't find me on my blog too much probably. But I'll try my best to keep you updated!

I was asked to make some watercolour illustrations for a website a few weeks ago. I hardly have any experience with water colouring so that was a bit of a challenge. Unfortuanatly I can't show you the finished drawings but although it took me a bit, they worked out pretty good.

I'm a bit of a control freak so that is probably why I like working with acrylic paint so much. It's easy to focus on details with acrylic paint. Where as watercolour leads is own life. Whaaa!.... no painting in between the lines. 'Let it flow'... that's what I had to tell myself all the time.

But I got the hang of it and motivated by a friend

(thanks again Nancy ; ) I'm giving it a go.

'Amazing' would be the best word to describe Fitzroy, the suburb me and my friend visited last Friday.

I was asked again to make a name plaque for a little boys room. And whilst I was working on the plaque I got inspired and decided to make a few paintings as well.

(As if I don't have enough ideas to work on...hehe)

Anyway, these are the paintings. Last minute I decided to add a few words. I stamped them and I'm very happy with the result. The words make the painting that little bit more special (at least that's what I think).

Off course they go together!

And this is the name plaque that got me started in the first place.

The name just fits as you can see!

Yesterday we experienced a cold day in Melbourne with an icy wind.

I'm amazed with the fact that I got adjusted to the Australian temperatures so fast.

It's 14 degrees outside and I'm already freezing!!!

The 'Craft and Stitch Show' was on this weekend in Melbourne! If I'm not mistaking it's the biggest yearly craft event in the city.

It was great and I went nuts!

This is what I bought...

I love blue, green and natural colours, and most of these fabrics I'll use in our home.

There's a few handprinted ones among them. Beautiful!

No, not mine. I wish!

Spotted this amazing stove/oven (love the colour!) in a magazine and just wanted to share it with you.

This is an recipe file from the late sixties/ early seventies.

I bought it in the shop I worked at.

It still has old recipes in the file! It makes me wonder who it ones belonged to.

Love the illustrations with that typical late sixties/ early seventies look.

Yesterday evening I went to a social craft night at the 'Tread Den' in Fitzroy.

Anyway, it was great. You bring your own sewing project, some finger food and a drink. They provide the sewing machines and overlockers and in-between crafting you get the change to chat with other crafty girls and exchange ideas. It was fun!

I baked some Mexican Cheese cookies...

They're a bit spicy... but yummy!

A first attempt...

There are a few reasons why I bought myself a new embroidery machine. Now I'm able to personalise products with for example names, and buy the beautiful designs you can get online to decorate my products with.

It's understandable though that using these designs is limited because of 'copyright'.

So in the near future I hope to design them myself!

Luckily my boyfriend is very much into computer stuff : )

And luckily he thinks this 'embroidery stuff' is 'pretty cool' (wow!) and he also thinks my drawing and painting is 'pretty cool' so he sees some opportunities and is more then willing to help (yay!)

This weekend we gave it a first try.

I don't have the right software yet, so we couldn't really create the detailed image I wanted,

but for a first try.....

I mentioned before that a friend and I have attended a crochet workshop for beginners last year. Since then my friend is addicted and you can definitely not call her a 'beginner' anymore. She crochets the most amazing things.

This week I felt a bit like a fish with Alzheimer. Floating around no idea in which direction to paddle. Lost in the big ocean of crafts.

You must now that I'm not working anymore (yes, i know...!) I decided to start up my own craft business and just focus on that for now. A very exciting step for me. Finally doing what I always have wanted!!!

But also a very confusing and frightening step. It takes a while before you will know if it's going to be a success or not and you keep wondering how you can succeed! I mean, there's so many great handmade items for sale now a days that it might me difficult to stand out.

On the other hand, I know I can! I will make it into an success. I was born to craft....hehe. Jolly... this sound as-if from a self help book!

There's still a lot of steps ahead of me, but I'm so excited and kind of grateful for the opportunity as well.

And as if things couldn't get any better I met an amazing lady who helps me setting up the business and she is (and has been) so motivating, inspiring and just wonderful. I feel so lucky!

On top of this very busy and exciting part of my life, we are also searching for a new home. We, or should I say, I am in desperate need of more space (to craft...hehe) and a garden!

So 'the search' and inspecting houses also take up a lot of time, but is also very exciting!

And in between I try to keep up with crafting. This is a customised name plaque for a little boys room.

And I made the fish cushion (above) myself as well. Did you notice the red seam/ edge (no idea how you call it). I've never done that before and do not know if I did it the right way but it worked out very well!

Redecorating!

I'm working on a little project for my sister Cindy. She wanted to redecorate the craft area for the kids in her living room a bit. Well as always I got over-excited (to many ideas!!!) and decided to help her out a bit.

I can't really show you to much yet, as I want to keep most of it as a surprise, but this is a tiny sneak preview.

Nice and bright colours for the kids!

I spotted these at Target (the Australian Hema for Dutchies ; ) and they were on sale!

The porcelain eggcups were $2.- per pair (1,35 euro!!!) en the mugs costed $3,- each (2,05 euro!!!)

I thought they make a nice vase and tea-lights in the crafty area for my sis.

(off course I bought a few for myself as well...hehe)

And just to let you know.... I have the best sis ever!

I spotted this in a shopping centre recently. Isn't this remarkable?

We all know Steve Irwin or 'The Crocodile Hunter' who past away a few years ago.

I admired the way he shared his excitement about the natural world rather than preaching people.

Easter at the beach!

We have spend most of the Easter weekend camping at Ninety Mile Beach with friends.

Ninety Mile Beach is believed to be the third longest uninterrupted beach in the world, just over 151 kilometres (94 miles)! Isn't that amazing?!

I'm used to the beaches in The Netherlands where on a sunny day half of the Dutch population can be found laying towel to towel on an higly overcrowded beach. And here you have this never ending beach with turquoise blue water almost to yourself. Love it!

Ps. we are dogsitting the fluffy ball of white hairs in the pictures. He came camping with us as well! So cute!

Painting Easter Eggs!

Since I can remember we have been painting eggs with the whole family at Easter time. You are never to old to paint Easter eggs I think. It's so much fun and a new challenge every year!

So just to let you know Mum, Dad and Sis....I have been keeping up with that tradition!
